![]() It might be helpful to find out how many hours your body prefers or needs. Unfortunately, there's no way to decrease the number of hours you need to sleep in order to perform optimally. ![]() The amount of sleep you need is genetically determined. While six solid hours can be enough for some people, most folks, especially people in their late teens and early 20s, may need as many as nine or ten to be completely rested and alert. You mentioned that you snooze for at least six hours each night. While a mind-numbing two-hours of your least-favorite lecturer might bore you to tears, it won't knock you out unless your body is already aching for rest. ![]() Boredom also can bring out evidence of a sleep deficit. It's in relaxed situations, such as a warm auditorium with comfy chairs, where the underlying fatigue makes an appearance. People don't usually feel sleepy when they're active - talking it up in smaller, discussion-based seminars, for example. And it makes sense that you'd notice yourself dozing specifically in big lectures. Everything that was once tedious is now easy because I'm not bored when I'm doing it.ĭisclaimer: This is traditionally considered bad form for studying or being in class, but in my defense it'd probably be considered a coping mechanism if I had gone to public school and got diagnosed with a "learning disability", or as I like to call it "short attention span for bullcrap".Even if your professor has the charisma of a potted plant, your regularly scheduled class-time naps probably mean that you're not getting enough z's in general. I've recently extended the strategy to other things, like housework, driving, and recreational programming. Now I listen to music or watch movies while studying and doing homework, especially when working on something tedious. You'd think the distraction would make me less effective, but (for me) it staves off boredom and keeps me functioning. During my BS and now MS, I have a laptop so I'm usually scrolling through Reddit, playing Minecraft or KSP, or reading about the topic on Wikipedia. I found that having a bit of distraction made it easier to stay awake and catch everything the professor was saying. During my AA I started drawing during class. I get bored because the professor is going too slow and there's nothing interactive going on. Personally, I can't focus on most lectures, regardless of the time. Sorry for the long post and it's really not a reccommend strategy but hey I'm in my last year and I'm still going so it's working for me! Iron and b vitamins are so important and many people don't get enough and feel tired all day. You'll find you can pay more attention during classes you do go to because your not worn out.Ī multivitamin in the morning can change your life. This doesn't work for every class but even if you do it for one class or only attend once a week to keep updated. So sitting in a class with a teacher that doesn't teach in my style is a waste of time. Everything in my head is based around how it connects to other things. Personally for me I learn based on how things work. So if you go to class every time and sit there and not listen your really just wasting time you could have been learning your own way. ![]() Contrary to what they teach you there are far more ways to learn than "auditory", "visual" and "kinesthetic". This strategy requires you to be able to learn in a different way. This doesn't work for everyone (or likely most people) but for me I've completed entire classes without attending a single lecture the entire semester (not even sure where the class was). I'm going to give you advice that most people won't give you. Meme posts made outside this time will be removed. Meme posts are allowed only Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
